Kyle Chandler has landed his next role.

As he awaits a potential second season for his forthcoming Netflix thriller Bloodline, Chandler will co-star opposite Casey Affleck in Kenneth Lonergan's Manchester-by-the-Sea. Lonergan penned the script, which centers on a ne'er-do-well plumber (Affleck) in Boston who is forced to return home to the titular town after he learns his older brother (Chandler) has passed away. There, he finds himself thrust into caring for his brother's 16-year-old son but finds himself crumbling due to a secret tragedy in his past.

The film is laced with flashbacks, allowing Chandler to frequently appear onscreen. Kevin J. Walsh, Chris Moore and Matt Damon, who initially was set to star, are producing, with Michelle Williams recently joining the cast as Affleck's wife. The film is expected to begin shooting in April in New England.

Chandler has been actively beefing up his film résumé in the years since his Emmy-winning series, Friday Night Lights, signed off in early 2011. He has played a string of authority figures in prestige films including Argo, Zero Dark Thirty and The Wolf of Wall Street, as well as other, more complex, roles in indies like The Spectacular Now and the upcoming lesbian drama Carol.
On March 20, the actor will return to television with a starring role in Bloodline, a dark family-thriller from the creators of Damages. In reviewing the series' 13-episode first season, The Hollywood Reporter's critic David Rooney wrote: "The return of Chandler and his warm gravitas to complex TV drama will be cause for rejoicing for Friday Night Lights fans, and this looks to be a juicy role for him.”

Chandler is repped by Gersh and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
