15 Episodes to Watch Before the World Ends

Friday Night Lights, How I Met Your Mother and More

TV to see Before World Ends

1. Friday Night Lights, "Pilot": A lot of showrunners would call the first episode of their series as one of the best, and audiences would definitely agree with them. It's where we get introduced to all the characters and learn how the show is going to flow. With Friday Night Lights, we didn't just get intros to the people of Dillon, Texas. We instantly and irrevocably fell in love with them. The first moment we laid eyes on Tim Riggins (Taylor Kitsch) will forever be burned into our memories, so it's not a bad sight to see when we close our eyes before the world ends. And let's not forget about the most perfect married couple on television: Mr. and Mrs. Coach, aka Connie Britton and Kyle Chandler. Is there a better phrase to hear before the brimstone and whatnot than: "Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose"? Nope.

Way Back When: Kyle Chandler

Kyle Chandler
Paramount

You know him best as Coach Taylor on the TV series ‘Friday Night Lights,’ and you can see him next in ‘Zero Dark Thirty,’ but in today’s Way Back When we take a look at Kyle Chandler before we knew and loved him.

‘Freddy’s Nightmares’
You guys may not remember this show, or you may have blocked it from your memory, but back in 1989 there was a short-lived TV series based on the ‘Nightmare on Elm Street’ movies called ‘Freddy’s Nightmares.’ Each episode featured a different story, like this one titled “Memory Overload,” starring Kyle Chandler as a character named Chuck. Enjoy his hilarious yelling:

Grey's Anatomy: Most Heartbreaking Deaths

Dylan Young (Kyle Chandler)

Dylan's death was heartbreaking because it was so completely unexpected. Meredith had gotten the bomb out of the patient and Dylan was slowly walking it to the disposal unit. All should have been well at that point, but sadly it wasn't, and brave Dylan's life ended in a flash.

TV Guide: Favorite Grey's Guest Stars

Kyle Chandler
Episodes: "It's the End of the World" and "As We Know It"

                                                                                                                                  3 of 21

The Friday Night Lights alum plays a tough-as-nails bomb squad leader who helps evacuate the hospital when a man comes in with a live explosive in his gut. The sometimes-brash Dylan helps Meredith stay calm after she's forced to put her hand inside the man to stabilize the bomb. But after she hands the bomb off to Dylan, he's blown to bits (pink mist) right in front of her. He later appears in Season 3 when Meredith drowns, coaching her in the afterlife to return to the living.

KC Central Note:  He's our absolute  favorite Grey's guest star, bar none!!  Kyle won his first Emmy, a Best Guest Actor win for playing bomb squad leader, Dylan Young, for "It's the End of The World."

Argo Reaches #1 at the Box Office

With a $100 million budget, "Cloud Atlas" was banking on box office success. If this weekend is any indication, it's going to be a slow process making that $100 million back. The movie, which stars Tom Hanks and Halle Berry, made $9.4 million this weekend across 2,008 theaters, bringing it to the number three spot.

It was beat by "Argo," which rose to number one for the first time since its release three weeks ago. The movie brought in $12.4 million for the weekend, for a total of $60.8 million since debut.

Adding insult to injury, the sci-fi adaptation was also beat by "Hotel Transylvania," which made $9.5 million in its fifth week. The movie has now earned $130.4 million which is record-breaking for Sony for animation movies.

Kyle Chandler, Mary Elizabeth Winstead Feeling 'Spectacular Now'

INDIE ALSO ADDS ODENKIRK, ROYO TO CAST

Kyle Chandler, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Bob Odenkirk and Andre Royo have joined the cast of James Ponsoldt's indie "The Spectacular Now," which Andrew Lauren Prods. ("The Squid and the Whale") has come on to fully finance.

A co-production between Shawn Levy's 21 Laps, Global Produce and ALP, pic stars Shailene Woodley, Miles Teller and Brie Larson, while Kaitlyn Dever, Masam Holden and Dayo Okeniyi are set to round out the cast.

Chandler will play Teller's dad, while Winstead will play his sister. Royo will play Teller's teacher and Odenkirk will play his boss. Holden will play Teller's friend, while Dever will play Woodley's friend.

Adapted from Tim Tharp's novel by "(500) Days of Summer" scribes Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, the coming-of-age tale follows Sutter Keely (Teller), a high school senior who only lives for the moment, and Aimee Finecky (Woodley), the mercurial introvert he attempts to "save" from life as a social outcast. As their relationship deepens, the lines between right and wrong, friendship and love, saving and corrupting, become inextricably blurred. Script was voted to the 2009 Black List.

Tom McNulty and Shawn Levy are producing with Michelle Krumm and Andrew Lauren. Neustadter and Weber will exec produce alongside Marc Shmuger, Matthew Medlin and Ruth Mutch. The Exchange is on board to sell foreign rights. UTA is handling domestic rights.

Production is currently under way in Athens, Georgia.

Ernest Borgnine: Remembering 8 Smaller TV Roles

Borgnine on “Early Edition”
Yes, Borgnine once shared a screen with Coach Eric Taylor, Kyle Chandler, back when he was playing Gary Hobson, a man who mysteriously received an advance copy of the next day’s newspaper and used that information to prevent horrible events from happening. No, this TV show didn’t air in the 1950s; it ended its run — quaintly enough — in 2000. Anyway, you can see Borgnine in the clip below at around the 19-minute mark, while you can view Chandler making adorable facial expressions at pretty much any moment in this video.

Filmmaker360: Kyle Chandler, John Hawkes, Amy Adams Workshop Emerging Director's Script

San Francisco Film Society's Filmmaker360 "Off the Page" Program Provides Emerging Director with Opportunity to Workshop His Script with Actors

Writer/Director Mario de La Vega Develops Script for 'The Undeniable Charm of Sloppy Unruh' with Kyle Chandler, John Hawkes and Amy Ryan

Under the auspices of the San Francisco Film Society’s Filmmaker360 program, the recently launched Off the Page series gave writer/director Mario de la Vega the invaluable opportunity to workshop his script for The Undeniable Charm of Sloppy Unruh—the story of a charming rogue’s homecoming to West Texas—with actors Kyle Chandler, John Hawkes and Amy Ryan, June 19th at the Film Society’s offices at the San Francisco Film Centre.

De la Vega’s script won the screenplay section of the Tribeca All Access Connects program. The project is currently being produced by Bona Fide Productions (Little Miss Sunshine, Election).

“Off the Page is such a gift for a project like Sloppy,” said de la Vega. “The chance for these great actors to be able to come together, get to know each other and actually workshop the script is special. Often movies with limited budgets don’t get this kind of opportunity. The program has been a real boost of momentum for us, and for that I’m extremely grateful to the Film Society.”

Off the Page was an equally valuable experience for the actors who participated:
“This is the way script development should be done.”—Kyle Chandler
“It was an illuminating experience to be able to take a microscope to the script and have the chance to workshop it with Mario and the other actors.”—John Hawkes
“Today was a beautifully creative day in an extremely inspiring setting with good food and good people.”—Amy Ryan

Help honor Red alongside Kyle Chandler, Joe Theismann

Count actor Kyle Chandler among Red McCombs’ many fans.

Even amidst the chaotic fanfare of accepting the big Program of the Year award from the nation’s TV critics last summer for the final season of “Friday Night Lights,” Chandler, alias Coach Eric Taylor, stopped to mention to me what an “amazing”  guy Red is.

Emmy winner Chandler, who lives in Austin with his family, will show just how much he respects and appreciates the S.A. business and charity powerhouse Saturday night, when he co-emcees a celebration of McCombs and his wife Charline.

The admiration is mutual. Not only was Red a huge fan of the Texas football and family drama on NBC, but is a  friend of Chandler’s as well. He and Charline have invited the actor to sit at their table at the event. “A Tribute to Red and Charline McCombs” starts at 6 p.m. Saturday at the palatial J.W. Marriott Hill Country Resort.

Gridiron Heroes is throwing the appreciation party to honor these two “heroes” for all their accomplishments and good deeds in the San Antonio community.

Chandler, who is busy these days on Martin Scorsese’s latest movie, “The Wolf of Wall Street” with Leonardo DiCaprio, will share the event’s emcee honors with former NFL MVP Joe Theismann.

“I am proud to support my great friends Red and Charline McCombs,”  Theismann says in a press release for the event. “There are very few people who have done more than they have to help others. It’s truly an honor to be here for them and the important cause they are supporting.”

The special evening will feature food, drinks, entertainment and a live and silent auction. All proceeds will benefit one of Red, Charline’s and Kyle’s favorite charities, Gridiron Heroes, a San Antonio-based nonprofit foundation that provides support to individuals sustaining catastrophic spinal cord injury through activities associated with high school football.

Also honoring McCombs, the former owner of the San Antonio Spurs, Minnesota Vikings and Denver Nuggets, will be current Spurs owner Peter Holt, who serves as honorary chairman and sponsor of the gala.

For more information, click here. Tickets are still available all the way up to the start of Saturday night’s event. You’ll be able to purchase them at the door. A better way to ensure getting in, however, is to  reserve your seats. To do so, call Burt Trembly at (702) 622-2275 or email him at Burt@CoachingCharities.com.

Emmy: Year Nice Guys Might Finish First

Road to Emmy 2012

Kyle Chandler rode off into the proverbial sunset last year winning the lead actor drama Emmy for the final season of "Friday Night Lights." It was an impressive victory, given the show's long-running struggle to find viewers beyond its small legion of admiring fans and TV critics.

All the more striking: Chandler, playing the show's noble high school football coach, beat a slate of actors portraying the sort of unsavory types that Emmy voters typically favor.

Last year's nominees included perennial dark-siders: Michael C. Hall's serial killer ("Dexter"), Jon Hamm's serial philanderer ("Mad Men"), Hugh Laurie's antisocial autocrat ("House"), plus newcomer Steve Buscemi, as a crooked political kingpin on "Boardwalk Empire."

And that's not even including Bryan Cranston, a three-time winner for his intense turn as the high school teacher turned meth kingpin on "Breaking Bad," since that show took the year off.
"Score one for the good guys, right?" says Jason Katims, head writer and exec producer on "Friday Night Lights" and creator of NBC's "Parenthood."

"I think, on a whole, most people are just trying to be good and trying to make their lives work," he says. "The inherent conflicts and struggles in life come from the things that get in the way of that pursuit. To me as a writer, that's what's interesting."

That's clearly the case, since Katims has another strong, good-guy contender this year in the lead drama category, "Parenthood's" Peter Krause.

Krause's dedicated dad joins a few other father-of-the-year candidates -- Noah Wyle from "Falling Skies," "Downton Abbey's" Hugh Bonneville and Kiefer Sutherland from "Touch" -- as well as the Timothy Olyphant's U.S. marshal on "Justified." (Olyphant won his first nomination for lead drama last year.)

Decent men have captured Emmy voters' attention in the past. James Spader's Alan Shore, first seen on "The Practice" and, later, on "Boston Legal," might have bent the rules occasionally (OK, frequently) in his pursuit of justice, but he was always fighting for the "right" side. Andre Braugher's "Homicide: Life on the Street" detective dedicated himself to battling crime, while Tom Skeritt's sheriff operated on a small-town level on "Picket Fences."

The challenge with such characters, says "Falling Skies" show runner Remi Aubuchon, is moving beyond the qualities typically associated with white-hat heroes to create well-rounded characters learning from their mistakes. He points to Wyle's "Falling Skies" protagonist, a weary man who has his hands full leading the resistance against an alien invasion while trying to keep his three sons out of harm's way.

"Noah didn't want to play a good guy who does everything right," Aubuchon says, "but a man who doesn't always get it right, someone whose strengths can turn into weaknesses if he's not careful. Someone like that, to me, can have just as many colors as a tragic figure like Walter White on 'Breaking Bad.' "

Chandler transitioned from "Friday Night Lights" to J.J. Abrams' bigscreen sci-fi thriller "Super 8" playing a variation of Wyle's "Falling Skies" character. For him, much of the pleasure in portraying these moral men can be boiled down to finding the characters' flaws. And these imperfections don't always have to be taken seriously.

"Some of my favorite scenes in 'Friday Night Lights' were the ones with Coach Taylor at home," Chandler says. "Coach could be a real idiot at times. … I think his wife would be the first one to tell you that. And yet, he'd usually fight her to the end, though, to his credit, I think he always apologized. Those were nice moments, too. The dichotomy between Coach's work life and home life always kept things interesting for me."

Katims says that kind of contrast can be as dramatic and interesting as, say, a Jersey mobster trying to keep both his crew and family under control. Maybe more so, he says, because, if done honestly, viewers will find the situations more relatable.

Krause, on "Parenthood," deals with raising an autistic son, unexpectedly becoming a father late in life and finding himself unemployed.

"Every family I know has something going on behind closed doors," Katims says. "None of us ever imagine these complications, yet we deal with them. That's the stuff of drama."

Best Drama Pilots of All Time

3. “Friday Night Lights”
I checked out “Friday Night Lights” when the first season hit DVD. I’d heard good things, but I’d also grown up in Texas, and I didn’t know if I’d be able to enjoy a show so enamored of the small-town sports culture that had never captivated me. By the end of the first hour, I was doing my best not to cry and already reaching for the remote to cue the next episode.

Kyle Chandler Supporting Roles of 2012

Oscar contention for Best Supporting Actor is already being contemplated.  Still riding the wave ofhis recent Emmy win, Kyle Chandler finds himself in the discussion this year (and next), even though little is yet know about his performances.

Kyle Chandler in Argo (never nominated)
Role: Hamilton Jordan, who “served [President] Jimmy Carter as one of the youngest White House chiefs of staff ever” (via Atlanta Metro News)
Award Wins: N/A
Award Nominations: N/A
Notes:
Real-life figure/true story
Advantages/Pros: Finally nabbing Emmy recognition for Friday Night Lights in recent years, will Chandler have a successful crossover into regular film acting? He also has a part in Kathryn Bigelow’s Zero Dark Thirty.
Disadvantages/Cons: Lots of internal competition
Kyle Chandler in Zero Dark Thirty (never nominated)
Role: Unknown
Award Wins: N/A
Award Nominations: N/A
Notes:
Real-life figure/true story
Advantages/Pros: Kathryn Bigelow’s success with The Hurt Locker and the recent killing of Osama bin Laden ensure that this movie will be one of the most discussed of the year. That could easily lead to Oscar attention for the film itself, Bigelow, and screenwriter Mark Boal. Any chance that the actors will be recognized?
Disadvantages/Cons: Lots of internal competition (like Chandler’s other potential Oscar play)

The resemblance to Hamilton Jordan in 'Argo' is uncanny!  Most likely a key reason for casting.

Starring Texas: Kyle Chandler

Dennis Quaid goes Vegas, Wes Anderson wows Cannes, Kyle Chandler turns FBI with Scorsese & DiCaprio

News_Kyle Chandler_Friday Night Lights

... It’s easy to imagine actor Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights) as a Texan.  I mean, he was so real as Coach Taylor in the TV series that earned him an Emmy as Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series last year. His character was the embodiment of a small town high school football coach in the Lone Star State.

So, though Chandler may not have been born here, I hereby proclaim, with absolutely no authority whatsoever, that he is an Honorary Texan. And he does have more ties to Texas. Chandler’s brother, Brian Chandler, is a Houston attorney. And when I went to Austin to lobby Texas legislators for more film production incentives, there was my Honorary Texan, helping us convince them.

Next up for Kyle Chandler, is a big screen role in The Wolf of Wall Street. His character will be a far cry from down home Coach Taylor. Chandler will play an FBI agent who takes down a shady stockbroker played by Leonardo DiCaprio.  It’s a Martin Scorcese film.

Scorcese?  DiCaprio?  I’d say our coach has scored a career touchdown!

Friday Night Lights Stars Swing for Charity

Nearly five years ago stars of the Austin-based TV series "Friday Night Lights" founded the Beyond the Lights Celebrity Golf Classic. The show's final episode aired last year, but Kyle Chandler and Brad Leland continue to host the event with a mix of sports and entertainment stars chipping in.

This weekend, they returned to the Lost Pines Resort in Bastrop for a charity event that also serves as a de facto cast reunion.

"It's going good. You don't think after the first year you're going to keep something alive, but at five years, it's a long time. There's a lot of folks from the show, too, that came out to support us this year," Chandler said.

The Golf Classic and accompanying poker tournament benefits victims of severe spinal cord injuries though Gridiron Heros and The Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis.
After five seasons the "Friday Night Lights" cast moved on to other projects but rumblings from Hollywood say a new movie could pick up where the TV show ended.

Chandler was tight-lipped about the development. Leland is optimistic that there's more to the story.

"They'll have to gather a large group together to make that happen and, of course, I think we all would. If it were a great script everybody would love to come back and do it again," Leland said.
Both Chandler and Leland still live in Texas where production of both the TV series and original "Friday Nights Lights" movie production were based.

"It would have to be done in Austin. The people of Austin were the people of Dillon and we would have to have that. I can't wait," Leland said. "I think they'll do it, but who knows?"

Ranking the Best Football Coaches in TV-Film History

1. Coach Eric Taylor in "Friday Night Lights"

The Friday Night Lights franchise was born from true beginnings after H.G. Bissinger's classic novel following the Permian Panthers was published. It took on a fictional life of its own when the television show was created to mirror the original story.

This may be one instance where the fiction is better than the facts, at least when comparing the Hollywood treatment that the book was given, compared to the television series that didn't try to tell the same story that Bissinger already nailed in print.

Relatively unknown actor Kyle Chandler plays such a simple and authentic character in the television show, as do most of the cast, that it is hard not to be sucked into the story. Immediately former players have to look at Coach Taylor and the town of Dillon and wish that they had the chance to play in a town like that and for a coach like that.

The stories may be worked up for drama, but in the end Coach Taylor is one of the truest depictions of a football lifer, who finds success and failure all mixed together on the football field and off of it.

Kyle Chandler Joins Leonardo DiCaprio in Martin Scorcese Film

After finally receiving an Emmy win for his beloved, long-running role on critically acclaimed series “Friday Night Lights”, Kyle Chandler is now setting out to conquer the big screen in a major way. Deadline reports Coach Taylor has added another big get to his growing pile of prestige projects and has joined the cast of Martin Scorsese’s latest, “The Wolf of Wall Street.” Frequent Scorsese collaborator Leonardo Dicaprio is set to play the lead role of Jordan Belfort in the film adapted by Terence Winter from Belfort’s own memoir: “By day he made thousands of dollars a minute. By night he spent it as fast as he could, on drugs, sex, and international globe-trotting. From the binge that sank a 170-foot motor yacht, crashed a Gulfstream jet, and ran up a $700,000 hotel tab, to the wife and kids who waited for him at home, and the fast-talking, hard-partying young stockbrokers who called him king and did his bidding, here, in his own inimitable words, is the story of the ill-fated genius”; Jonah Hill of all people recently signed on to play his best friend and business partner, while Chandler will play the FBI agent who built the case against Belfort that led to his downfall and eventual imprisonment.

Chandler recently wrapped political thriller “Broken City” opposite Mark Wahlberg and Russell Crowe and was last seen on the big screen in JJ Abrams and Steven Spielberg’s family alien actioner “Super 8.” He is currently filming Kathryn Bigelow’s Bin Laden thriller “Zero Dark Thirty” alongside Joel Edgerton and Jessica Chastain, and has another military thriller, Ben Affleck’s “Argo”, completed and awaiting release.

'Friday Night Lights' movie news: Connie Britton & Peter Berg talk film plans

friday-night-lights-nbc.jpgClear eyes, full hearts, can't wait for this freaking movie.

    "Friday Night Lights"
fans have been hearing buzz about a potential film based on the TV show (which was based on a film which was based on a book) since last summer, and it finally sounds like things are coming together. When executive producer Peter Berg was interviewed for Details Magazine, star Connie Britton stopped by for a chat about the upcoming movie.

"I had a meeting at Jason Katims' office," she reveals. "And we were talking about something else and I said, 'Forget about all that. Is this movie going to happen?' I was sitting on his couch, and he's like, 'Look behind you.' And I look behind me and it's a wall with a big, huge corkboard on it with all these 3x5 cards. That's what these writers do, they do the whole story on 3x5 cards. He's like, 'That's the movie.'"

"We're doing it," adds Berg, promising that Kyle Chandler has also agreed to do the film. He says that the film's central story is based on a scandal involving Coach Mike Leach, a Texas Tech coach who was fired for making a concussed player, Adam James, wait in an equipment closet. Ultimately, it was revealed that Leach had simply asked James to stay out of the sun, as he was concussed.

"Craig James is a f***ing scumbag, helicopter dad," Berg says, "and everything wrong with the culture I observed in Texas. Mike Leach never put that kid in a closet. The kid admitted it. It was a total lie. Now Mike Leach has the Washington State University job and he's got carte blanche. It's a great comeback story."

    20 Greatest Pilots Since 2000

5 – FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS (NBC, October 3, 2006) “Pilot”
Often overlooked and criminally underappreciated throughout its five-year run, Friday Night Lights will still go down as one of the best TV dramas of all time. And not because of plot ploys or groundbreaking storylines, but because it's one of the most realistic depictions of family life ever attempted on screen. The pilot's subtle introduction of the core characters is achieved within the first five minutes of being thrown into this seemingly complex, but very real world. At first glance, the show is be about high school football in Dillon, Texas, but more importantly, it's about the family and community dynamic that goes along with it. Coach Eric Taylor and his wife Tami (brilliantly played by Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton) face real-life struggles that are beautifully crafted within the show's first episode. It was smart. It wasn't a gimmick. And it sucked us all into that locker room every week. Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose, ya'll. - Sharon Tharp

Peter Berg Keeps Talk of FNLs Movie Alive

Friday Night Lights director and TV series creator Peter Berg has revealed that he is planning to reprise his role as Mo McArnold in the movie spinoff.

Ranking FNLs Actors' Post FNLs Careers

    Kyle Chandler

It makes sense that the adults on Friday Night Lights, who have longer resumes and don’t have to worry about getting stuck in teen fare, would have an easier path once the show ended. And after five career-defining seasons as Eric Taylor, Kyle Chandler is getting what he deserves. He was a slightly darker version of Coach Taylor in J.J. Abrams’ critic-pleasing blockbuster Super 8, and Argo, a film about the Iran hostage crisis in which he plays Jimmy Carter’s chief of staff, Hamilton Jordan, comes out later this year. With more high-profile projects in the pipeline — particularly Kathryn Bigelow’s Zero Dark Thirty, about the team of Navy Seals who killed Osama bin Laden – Chandler is bound to become Hollywood’s top choice for no-bullshit good guy roles.

Casting Pilot Season: Who's In, Who's Out and Who'd Never

    Pilot Season Talent

Kevin Bacon is the most boldface name to say yes so far, as Kyle Chandler, James Marsden, Anna Kendrick and Rose Byrne top the list of those being wooed.

With pilot season under way, Hollywood’s talent community is dusting off its résumés and readying for its ego boost.

The actors most in-demand fall into a handful of categories. First are those who are being wooed by many but unlikely to accept, a group that includes Friday Night LightsKyle Chandler and X-Men’s James Marsden (more likely to do cable), as well as Little Miss Sunshine’s Greg Kinnear, BridesmaidsRose Byrne and Up in the Air’s Anna Kendrick (more likely to do movies). Then there are those expected to accept one of multiple projects: Rome’s James Purefoy, who at press time had four offers and has since nabbed a role opposite Kevin Bacon in Kevin Williamson's Fox drama, along with comedy draw Justin Long. Next come those weighing a single offer who could potentially say yes — among them movie stars like Jane Fonda, in talks for an NBC comedy. And finally, the subset that is being approached but nobody expects to say yes; they include Richard Gere, Ed Harris and Hugh Grant.

Kyle Chandler Will Hunt Bin Laden

Kyle Chandler is the latest to hunt Osama Bin Laden with Kathryn Bigelow.

"Friday Night Lights" star Kyle Chandler is the latest actor to join Kathryn Bigelow's untitled movie about the hunt to find Osama Bin Laden. Deadline reports that he joins a cast that also includes Jessica Chastain, Jason Clarke, Joel Edgerton, Chris Pratt, Edgar Ramirez and Mark Strong. The flick is due to hit theaters on December 19.

Kyle Chandler: Joining Hunt for Bin Laden Picture

EXCLUSIVE: Kyle Chandler is the latest name to join the ensemble of the untitled Kathryn Bigelow-directed drama about the Navy SEAL Team 6′s long hunt for Osama bin Laden. That hunt culminated with the fatal shooting last year of the Al-Qaeda leader and mastermind of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. I’ve heard that Chandler will be playing a CIA agent, but nobody has confirmed any of the cast Deadline has revealed on the film, so you’ll have to take my word for it. The Mark Boal-scripted drama for Sony Pictures and Annapurna Pictures stars Jason Clarke, Joel Edgerton, Chris Pratt, Jessica Chastain, Mark Strong and Edgar Ramirez. The picture is moving forward even as the Pentagon announced it is investigating charges made by Rep. Peter King that Oscar-winning The Hurt Locker tandem Bigelow and Boal somehow got inside information about the mission from the Obama administration in preparing the script. Sony Pictures has dated the film for release on December 19, deliberately steering clear of the presidential elections.

Chandler most recently starred in the JJ Abrams-directed Super 8, and wrapped the Mark Wahlberg-Russell Crowe drama Broken City and the Ben Affleck-directed Argo. He has been offered a ton of series but hasn’t made a move to return to the small screen since wrapping Friday Night Lights, which Peter Berg hopes to turn into a feature film. Chandler’s reticence is understandable; that series is almost an impossible act to follow, and he won the Best Actor Drama Emmy for it this year. Chandler is repped by Gersh and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.

FNLs Movie Still in the Works

    Says Peter Berg:

"Jason Katims, who was our super talented show-runner, is about done with the script," Berg said. "You never know. So much of these things become scheduling. Kyle [Chandler] is busy, Adrianne [Palicki] is busy, Taylor is busy, Connie Britton is busy, but if we can get everyone in the same room at the same time, we all want to do it. We're not done with 'Friday Night Lights.' "

Speaking to a potential plotline, Berg said they plan to involve some real-life elements pegged to former Texas Tech football coach Mike Leach but that things will revolve around Coach and Tami Taylor from the TV series.

"[Katims] has come up with a really great storyline that parallels what happened to Mike Leach, one of my heroes, a coach at Texas Tech who was unjustly fired and unjustly accused of mistreating a player with a concussion, which was proven to not have been the case. He's now at Washington State getting ready for what I think will be a great redemption story," Berg explained. "It would be critical that we get Kyle and Connie [onboard for the film] — we anchored the show around them — and then bring in Riggins, Tyra, Lyla and all other characters as we could get them. But the idea is to really revolve it around the coach."

5 Reasons the SAG Awards are Better Than the Oscars

    2. Brad Pitt and Kyle Chandler Are Nominated: Unlike the Academy Awards, the SAGs nominates both movie and TV stars. You could argue that on this point the SAGs are the equal of the Golden Globes, but the SAGs doesn't go to as obvious lengths to liquor up its honorees, hence speeches, like Sandra Bullock's from a couple years back (even including all its now-cringeworthy shout-outs to Jesse James), are heartfelt, warm and, added bonus, coherent.

Best luck and have fun, Kyle! From all your fans at Kyle Chandler Central.
